About Mira Mesa

Mira Mesa is one of the largest communities in San Diego, California. It was originally created to support the Naval Air Station in the 1950s and today has many homes, businesses, and recreational venues.

This community plan area is mostly referred to as Mira Mesa but also includes the neighborhoods of Sorrento Mesa and Sorrento Valley. It is bounded by Interstate 15, Interstate 805, the Los Peñasquitos Canyon, and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The San Diego Unified School District is the second largest in the state. Students in this community may attend highly ranked facilities like Mason Elementary school, Challenger Middle School, and Mira Mesa High School. Private schools in this area include Good Shepherd Catholic School, Rainbow Kids Integral Preschool, and Mira Mesa Christian School. Public universities include the University of California (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as the San Diego Community College District.

The business district in this area offers office space, technology facilities, and hundreds of businesses. There are several shopping centers as well as a movie theater. Stores include Vons, Target, Seafood City, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Kohl’s, and Petco.

Mira Mesa has 12 parks which include ten neighborhood venues. It even has its own radio station which offers smooth jazz and a live show with Jay Peterson.

San Diego is California’s second largest city and the nation’s eighth. Its economy relies on tourism, manufacturing, international trade, and military defense related activities. This city is known for the San Diego Zoo as well as museums like the San Diego Air & Space Museum. San Diego is home to the Chargers of the National Football League and the Padres of Major League Baseball.
